We love a good local business success story, here at Curiocity. In fact, ‘The little swimwear shop that could‘ is one of our favourites, but alas – all good stories do have an end. After 45 long incredible years, Calgary-based retailer, Swimco, has announced that they will be closing their doors permanently.
With sales at an all-time low due to the pandemic, Swimco was forced to file for bankruptcy in June and has since made the difficult decision to close all stores across Canada.

These folks have been in the retail industry since 1975, back when they would actually sell everything via the mail. After gaining serious traction, they opened their very first store in ’85, then later went on to launch locations in B.C., Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario in addition to Alberta. Now, it seems they have kind of come full circle.
In order to get rid of their inventory, the company has decided to stay open online – meaning they will once again be selling swimsuits in the mail. Everything has been marked down by 45%, but it’s worth noting that all sales will be final.
This is a sad one, folks – but if you’re in need of a swimsuit, it’s not a bad idea to take a look.
Now, how about we get 2020 over and done with. What do you guys say? Sound good? Good.
