The weekend is upon us and so is that ‘get the hell at out of dodge’ feeling. How about a little road trip?! Take a beat from big city life by spending the day elbow deep in some clay at Medalta Potteries in Medicine Hat.

A visit to this historic arts hub is a totally unique-to-Alberta experience. Located in a converted century-old factory, this incredible facility is where archeology, restoration, technology, and art come together to create a memorable day full of interactive activities.

At Medalta you’ll see the best and brightest inventions of the industrial age, as well as contemporary masterpieces. After wandering through the non-for-profit museum, guests can also tour the iconic beehive kilns and nationally recognized excavations, then will be able to head over to the studio to recreate that one scene from Ghost with their travel partner (if you guys know and are into each other in that way.)

Take one of their ‘Saturday sampler’ pottery classes during the day, or get a complimentary glass of wine and some snacks by taking their ‘date night’ class and make an evening of it. Either way, you’ll leave with memories and a fired and glazed piece of art – made by you!

Not a bad way to spend your weekend, hey? Check it out, folks! Maybe you’ll discover that this entire time you’ve been the modern-day Picasso of vases.
