This summer, wind down, kick back, enjoy a cold can of alcoholic wastewater and like it. As if 2020 couldn’t get any more unpredictable, Village Brewery just launched a sustainable beer made with re-used water and apparently, it actually tastes pretty good?
In partnership with ACWA and Xylem Inc., the local liquor stop has created Alberta’s very first beer made with ‘dirty’ water.
“This limited edition Blonde was brewed with water treated at ACWA using tertiary treatment technologies including advanced oxidation and nano-filtration,” they say on Instagram.

“It was then tested to demonstrate that it met rigorous standards outlined by AHS-SHE for water reuse, including pathogen reduction requirements, as well as Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines.”
According to the brewery, this was done in an effort to demonstrate how treated gutter water can help address Calgary water scarcity.
Using only barley and the special water, this particular beer is said to have a slight fruity sweetness, a subtle bitterness and has a golden (showers) glow… ha.
Seriously though, folks – for those brave enough, this handcrafted project might be worth checking out? If AHS says it’s safe, it must be? Also, it’s good for the environment and that’s pretty cool.
If you’re interested, you can order your own 4 pack here. Who knows, maybe this is the future of beer.
