If you don’t have a quality reusable mask, you might want to get yourself one, just in case! City Councillors will meet on Monday to discuss making face masks mandatory in Calgary.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi has said several times that he supports the idea of wearing protective face coverings especially while using city transit or being indoors where people are unable to distance themselves.

According to 660 News, Nenshi has also had a few conversations with Premier Jason Kenney, who agrees, but essentially just said that a provincial mandate would be complicated. This is due to the Counties, and cities like Spruce Grove that have extremely low infection and transmission rates.

Now it’s kind of in the cities hands.

“I want to remind people that it’s not ‘wear a mask for the economy,’ it’s ‘wear a mask to save the economy,’” said Nenshi Friday morning.

“Wear a mask to ensure public health, because if people don’t do it, they don’t do those three things- physical distancing, good hygiene, wearing a mask, when the second wave comes we’ll have to shut down again, and none of us want that.”

Wowza, this will be an interesting one! It’ll be especially eye-opening to see how the public reacts to whatever they decide. What do you guys think? Should face masks be mandatory in Calgary? Let us know!  We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this one for you guys! Until then, be safe, folks!
