As the weather warms and the businesses open as part of Alberta’s phase 1 relaunch, Calgarians are feeling more comfortable with returning to their pre-COVID activities. City hotspots like Eau Claire and Prince’s Island Park as well as Nose Hill and Sue Higgins, have been packed with people going for walks, riding bikes, and getting fresh air. In response, Mayor Naheed Nenshi had four words during a routine press conference this week. “Don’t be like Toronto.”

“There are plenty of places where you can enjoy some green space throughout the city, and that’s what we’re really encouraging people to do,” he said.

Nenshi said he didn’t want to see busy, congested parks, like in recent images shared of Canada’s biggest city, to which Deputy Chief Sue Henry agreed.

“We ask you to visit a different park if you arrive and the park is crowded,” she said.

Honestly, that’s fair enough, guys. We’ve got a ton of green spaces within the city limits, and they’re all worth checking out! We’re on our way to flattening the curve, folks! But we’ve got to keep at it! Alberta’s phase 1 relaunch, is just the beginning!  Enjoy yourselves out there… just make sure you’re doing it at a reasonable distance.
