Well it’s about time! Calgary’s historic city hall will finally be unveiled to the public this June after undergoing a 3-year restoration. Talk about an extreme building makeover!

The project, which has been disguised as an image printed to scale on a 7th Avenue enclosure, reportedly cost $34 million. Which is wild, but we guess that’s the price to rehabilitate 15,522 sandstone bricks that are over 100 years old, individually.

Blocks that they were unable to restore, were carefully selected and brought it in from Spain, Poland, and Ohio (of all places) to match the original material used. They really went all out on this one, guys.

Verandas and balconies have also been restored, they’ve replaced the roof and reinforced the cupola, rehabilitated the window frames, added exterior perimeter lighting, and stabilized the clock tower; which actually began leaning away from the building. Good catch, guys!

Finally, in addition to all of the exterior rehabilitation, they also repaired the interior that had been damaged after years of leaky windows and poor drainage.

Honestly, we can’t wait to see Calgary’s iconic city hall in all of its glory again. We are ready! Mayor“move that bus!”
