University of Calgary and MRU to resume alternative style classes this fall

Alberta’s future is uncertain. How long will all of this last, when can we resume our regularly scheduled lives? Unfortunately, we can’t say for sure, but that shouldn’t hold us back from making plans and looking ahead… even if things look a little different. Thursday, Calgary universities announced their plans for alternative delivery of classes come the fall semester.
Students can expect either little or no face-to-face interaction in the upcoming school year. In a virtual video announcement, Tim Rahilly, president of Mount Royal University, said that although a final decision will not be made until June 30th, students and faculty should prepare for a virtual experience.

“We think it’s important to allow everyone the time to wrap their heads around what we anticipate to be the situation in the fall,” he said.
Ed McCauley, president of the University of Calgary, took a slightly different approach but made a similar statement yesterday.
“We have arrived at this approach after review of public health guidelines, consultation with public health experts, and consideration of our unique circumstances,” he said in a press release.
Exceptions may be granted to smaller class sizes for experimental learning services such as labs, tutorials, and seminars. However, the schools will only allow a maximum of 30 % of students to be on campus at any given time.
“The COVID-19 situation is evolving… It will be a journey, and there will be setbacks. But, as I’ve said before, there’s no group of people I’d rather be with as we navigate these difficult times.”
Well, better safe than sorry, right? Good luck to all students and faculty affected by this news! On the bright side at least you’ll save a ton of money on parking and food court food! Also, you’ll like, never be late for a class again!
