Hats off for this one, guys. We think in our hearts, we all knew this was coming, but that doesn’t make it any easier. Today, we’re sad to announce that the 2020 Stampede has been cancelled.

We recognize that this is by no means the only event to have been affected by the outbreak, but we’ll admit we had hopes that the Greatest Show on Earth would pull through this summer. Over the past hundred years, the event has become a symbol of Calgary’s resilience and vibrant spirit. Hell or high water, we’ve managed to throw an unprecedented celebration of culture, history, and art, year after year, but this is bigger than us.

It pains us to say that it’s for the best, but in order to take the power back, prevent the spread and heal, this is necessary.

To the vendors, employees, venues, entertainers, and athletes that rely on the Stampede every year creatively and/or financially, we stand with you.  To the tourists, avid rodeo enthusiasts, and foodies, we stand with you. To the adrenaline junkies, party animals, and music lovers, we stand with you.

But to the health care workers, grocery store clerks, janitors, and delivery drivers risking their health and wellbeing, even their sanity, every single day, we stand for you.

Thank you for everything you have done, and continue to do through this difficult, challenging, and confusing time. You are all amazing.
