Whether you’re a 20-something with that hygienically disturbed roommate some of us know all too well, a Zen master, or a bubble bath boss, it’s important to have a good, reliable wick. At the Milk Jar Candle Company, a little wax goes a long way.

This Calgary-based company was founded after Holly, the owner, began making candles for her friends. She enjoyed the project so much and it was so popular that she actually started her own company. Not just the standard model though, because at Milk Jar, $1 from every candle sold actually goes to special needs youth programs.

This year, Milk Jar has decided to partner up with G.R.I.T. Calgary Society (Getting Ready for Inclusion Today).
This Calgary-based charity is devoted to improving the lives of young children and their families. GRIT’s services include personalized education, therapy and other forms of support to families all around Calgary.

Milk Jar really does the most when it comes to their business. They give back, are earth-friendly, and are even health-conscious! These guys have a jar return program and only use natural wood wicks and paraffin-free soy wax. They also hand-pour every single candle themselves.
Right now, some of you might be like, “wait, paraffin? How is paraffin dangerous?”

Well, paraffin, which is found in most candles, is actually a petroleum by-product. When lit, soot is produced, which is not something anyone with a set of lungs should really be inhaling. The more you know!

Did we mention that these candles also just smell really, really good? They’ve practically got a scent for every occasion, mood and holiday.
Plus, the crackle and spark of their wood wicks really add an another layer to the candle burning experience. Yeah, we’re well-versed in candles.

But we could be better versed, that’s for sure. So, we’re definitely keeping tabs on Milk Jar’s upcoming candle-making workshops. Slated to launch this March, these workshops are going to be the perfect date option for the spring.
Honestly, Milk Jar kind of does it all. Do yourself a favour and check them out!
