Calgary’s New Central Library opening weekend

Attention bookworms! And ice cream addicts! And really, any Calgarian! The new Central Library is here in just a few days, and it’s got tons of stuff to offer. Keep reading for a list of all the things you just have to check out on Nov 1’s Opening Day!
New Central Library
- Where: Central Library- 8 Ave SE
- When: Opens Thursday, November 1
- Time: 9:00 am – 8:00 pm Monday – Thursday; 9:00 am – 6:00 pm Friday; 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Saturday; 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm Sunday
- Cost: Free! (Excluding Special Events)
The party will begin at 9 am outside the library, with the Dixieland Band and Luke’s Drugmart getting the crowd hyped up. Free hot chocolate will be handed out to the first 500 people in line, so get yourself there bright ‘n’ early to take advantage!
Once 10 am hits, the Shaikh Family Welcome Gallery will be opened up and every floor will be bustling with activity. Check out Pied Piper Storytimes, Telus Spark science demonstrations, a giant Lite Brite, Indigenous Beading, and more… and when you get hungry, don’t forget to hit up the various food trucks that’ll be parked outside.
But if you happen to be busy on Thursday, there will be a continuing party all weekend long. On Saturday there will be button making workshops, Indigenous dances, and pop-up operas, among other activities. On Sunday you can expect an interactive exhibit from the Hotchkiss Brain Institute and a virtual reality questionarium. The action just doesn’t stop!
