The small Canadian town of Asbestos really wants to change its name

Alright, folks, we’re going to try and sum up the situation asbestos we can for you. Ha, just a little Friday funniness to keep things loose around the Curiocity office. Anyway, a small Quebec town called Asbestos announced on Wednesday that it’s going to change its name.

You better believe that Abestos was at one point home to the largest asbestos mine in the world. That thing shut down operations in 2011 though, as more and more countries banned the use of asbestos due to its adverse health effects. Fun fact- Canada didn’t ban it until last year!

Now, the town of Asbestos blames its name on ruining chances of getting foreign investment. That worries us since we were in the process of building the village of Formaldehyde. Looks like we might have to scrap those plans, hey? That’s alright, we’ll find another, more suitable name.

We’re hoping that to drum up interest, the town council will put the naming process to a vote. That way, Canada can have its very own version of Boaty McBoatface. Boy, that would be a glorious day for Quebec.
