The City of Calgary wants your opinion on a new inner city community

Another day, another construction project met with negative feedback. Recently, the City of Calgary revealed that they have plans to convert a former mobile home park into a new inner-city community. Although these plans are in the early stages, plenty of people are already upset.
The idea is to take the 22-acre piece of land where the Midfield Mobile Home Park used to be and convert the space into Winston Heights Village. The community would be a medium-density area where the city hopes to add pathways, parks and 700 new residential units. Sounds nice, right?

But those local to the 16th avenue site, believe that this could increase traffic and would create a miserable parking situation.
The neighborhood already has a few school zones along the main road and is in close proximity to downtown, so the apprehension is valid. There’s already plenty happening in the area, and it sounds like that could be a nightmare during rush hour.
Now it seems the city is scrambling to find a solution. They held a workshop earlier this month, where they presented several different plans for the new development. Unfortunately for them, all feedback was fairly negative.
So public consultation continues! The city wants our help to figure it all out (because we’re all geniuses, obviously). Another workshop is being held this Thursday and an online survey will be open until Friday. Construction for the project isn’t set to start until 2023, but the sooner we figure it out, the better! So go on, stretch those opinion muscles, Calgary!
