Calgary’s oldest independent coffee shop is basically a ’90s dream (VIDEO)

Don’t get your scrunchies in a bunch! We’re 90s kids, so all we have is fond memories of that decade. If we could’ve stayed there, we might have. We actually think Café Beano has the right idea.
The coffee shop will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in January and has remained pretty much unphased by fast times and modern advances since opening its doors. It’s admirable, honestly.
Contrary to popular practice, Cafe Beano doesn’t offer wifi. They encourage real conversations and we guess unproductivity as well, if you’re the type to work while you slurp.

This place is good. Really good, but you don’t just have to take our word for it. The old school concept, chill atmosphere, coffee, and their super tasty baked goods have won them “Calgary’s best coffee shop” more than once. Impressive, hey?
Their popularity literally spills onto the streets. On any given day, regardless of weather, there’s almost always a crowd of people on the benches right outside. The commitment from some of their regulars is a little insane, but it’s nice to see if you’re not fighting with one of them for a spot to sit.

Café Beano is centrally located and open late, which is always a plus. Whether you need a fix early in the AM, or you’re jonesing for some rocket fuel after hours, the cafe has a hot mug of something waiting for you.
