Chucky’s Back! Flames sign three-year contract with Matthew Tkachuk

Hey, Flames fans! It looks like we’ve scored another player to add to our already impressive roster. Calgary’s home team has signed a three-year contract with restricted free agent Matthew Tkachuk for $21 million USD. This works out to an icy $7 mill a year… more money than we’ll probably ever see in an entire lifetime.

The Scottsdale, Arizona golden boy was first drafted in 2016, sixth overall. This came shortly after a Memorial Cup win while playing for the Ontario London Nights.

Since then, Tkachuk has played 224 games and has collected 174 points overall. 77 of these were racked up last season. Much wow.

This new deal with the Flames will make Tkachuk the highest-paid player on the team going forward. Both fan favourites Johnny Gaudreau and captain Mark Giordano clock in just under, at $6.75 million. Sean Monahan follows closely behind at $6.375. Chump change, Sean.

As of right now, it seems Tkachuk is worth every pretty penny! Early last season, he became the youngest player in franchise history to reach 100 career points. This de-throned Monahan, who met this milestone in 2017 at 22-years old.

But we guess we’ll find out pretty quick! Calgary’s season opener is set for October 3rd where they’ll play the Colorado Avalanche on their home turf. Tickets for the game can be purchased here.
