US travel to Canada in 2019 just broke a decade-old record

According to the latest press release from Statistics Canada, the amount of US travel to Canada during the first half of the year has hit a level that hasn’t been seen since 2007. Around 12.3 million of our southern neighbours have decided to come say hello since January.
The number of American visitors is up 2.2% from last year. According to CNN, we’ve got ‘poutine, polar bears and the Northern Lights’, which is a massive draw for US travel to Canada. Colour us sold- that’s as much of a reason to visit a country as we can come up with.

Meanwhile, the number of Canadians visiting America is down 2.8% from last year. This could be attributed to the rise in value for the US dollar (which is now 2 cents more than last year). Or, it might be because of a, ahem, tumultuous political situation. We’re betting on the latter.
Speaking of sketchy stuff! We wonder if there’s any correlation between Americans visiting Canada and impending economic issues. A reminder that 2007 marked the year before a massive recession, and that there’s more than a little blood in the water this year.
