Calgary just got a 4DX Theatre with moving seats, smells, and weather

Ever wanted to have your body jolt as a raptor walks by in Jurassic Park? What about feel it breathing down your neck? Or best yet… smell it? Yeah, us neither. But Cineplex and CJ 4DPLEX just made it a reality in Calgary, so you bet we’re heading down to the new 4DX Theatre to give ‘er a shot.
This new multi-sensory concept means that movies are getting more intense than ever before. We’re talking much more than just 3D glasses here: you’ll be legitimately feeling like you’re in the movie. (Maybe don’t go to a scary clown flick at this spot?)

So how does it work? Well, with 120 motion-synchronized seats, lightning simulators, fans, seat ticklers (seriously), smoke machines, snowmakers, bubble blowers, and scent diffusers, you’re gonna be overwhelmed with sensations.
Watching that rain scene in The Notebook? Expect to feel a lil mist. Enjoying that classic “I’ll have what she’s having” scene from When Harry Met Sally? You might notice some seat tickling. We kid, we kid. …Or do we?
So how much does a ticket run you? Only about $21.99 each. Honestly, considering how much we’re willing to spend on popcorn, this seems pretty worth it.
For now, Fast & Furious is the only movie option you’ve got. Think fight scenes, car chases, a lil snow (it was shot in Kananaskis, after all). On the other hand, It is coming soon, which is a seriously bold move. You won’t catch us volunteering to be tickled by a nightmarish clown, but hey– it’s your world.
